SCP Ethos

What is our ethos? Well first and foremost this site is an astronomy site. That is, it has been established for astronomers of all persuasions to discuss anything and everything relating to astronomy. The forum and resource pages are there to provide information and additional enjoyment to this great hobby.

South Celestial Pole is not owned or controlled by any one person. It is a collaborative effort between amateur astronomers in different states of Australia, who all contribute equally to the running of the site. We strive to ensure that no biases are present and that everyone who wants to contribute can. If you feel that there is room for improvement on the site, please let us know via the website feedback forum. This is our website and "our" means every amateur astronomer, not just the administrators.

Contributors to all our forums are encouraged to speak freely on a variety of subjects and in whatever manner they choose. You are encouraged to give your opinion without fear of being treated like you would on other forums. Contributors will find, the usual astronomy related forums and also find a place to peruse a joke or be the joker. If you like to spam, there is a special forum for doing this, if you spam anywhere else your post will be moved to the spam forum. You will not be banned for spamming or disagreeing with us, nor will your posts be deleted. We believe that everyone has the right to be heard and given the opportunity to explain.

However, having said that, this site is not a place where bigots, bullies or purveyors of pornography will be tolerated. Consequently, contributors who post pornographic material, recite racially based abuse or threaten another person with violence will not be tolerated. You will be banned if you act in this manner.

So, if you are an amateur astronomer and want to become involved in the most fun and relaxed astronomy site in Australia, then you are more than welcome. You can register (for free) to use the forums easily; you only require a valid email address.
